Experience Nature Close Up

Denali National Park & Preserves has a total of six campgrounds along Park Road. The Denali Campgrounds are unique in their location and accessible to certain areas of the park. All are reachable from the park entrance area without a vehicle.

Firewood: Fires are allowed in designated campfire rings at the Denali Campgrounds. Because firewood is difficult to find at the campgrounds (it can only be taken from dead or downed trees), we recommend that you bring wood with you. Firewood can be purchased at the Riley Creek Mercantile inside the park and at many locations outside the park.
Supplies: There is no food or water available in the park past the Wilderness Access Center. Be sure to stock up with necessary before leaving for your campground.

Riley Creek Campground

Mile 0.4

Riley Creek Campground is located immediately on the left side of the road as you enter the Park from the Parks Highway. 147 sites for both RV’s and tents are nestled among the spruce trees and along Riley Creek, close by the Riley Creek Mercantile, Wilderness Access Center and the Denali Visitor Campus and trails making it the most accessible Denali campground to park amenities. Trails and the Riley Creek Shuttle make getting around easy if you don’t have a car or if you don’t want to drive.

Savage River Campground

Mile 13

Located 13 miles in from the Parks Highway, Savage River Campground is smaller in size and more remote. Savage River offers 33 sites for tents and RVs provide easy access to great hiking and views of the Outer and Alaska Ranges - including Denali when it is visible.

Sanctuary River Campground

Mile 23

Tucked away off the road, this small Denali campground is available to tent campers and is accessible by bus or on foot only.

Teklanika River Campground

Mile 29

Located beyond the Savage River, Teklanika Campground provides a unique park experience for those wanting more time in the park, and a truly remote camping experience among the backdrop of Cathedral Mountain and the Teklanika River.

Igloo Creek Campground

Mile 35

Igloo Creek Campground is a 5-site Denali campground located at Mile 35 on the Park Road. There is a chemical toilet available; no potable water, hook-ups or other amenities.

NOTE: Open late-May - early-September, weather dependent.

Wonder Lake Campground

Mile 85

This is the furthest Denali campground from the park entrance, Wonder Lake is only available to tent campers and is accessible by Camper Bus (part of the shuttle bus system). When the weather is clear, wake up to the incredible views of Denali and the Alaska Range in their full splendor. The mosquitoes and other biting flies can be quite thick from mid-June until late August so come prepared.
